Review: 1-800-PetMeds®

The Chesnut Mutts 1-800-PetMeds Review

I am sure many of you know of 1-800-PetMeds® through the TV commercials and how they provide prescription medication for your pets, but did you know that they provide so much more?

Back in May at BlogPaws, I had a chance encounter with Erin Gleeson who is the outreach specialist at 1-800-PetMeds®. We had a great conversation, and she wondered if I could share what they offer.

Okay, so when you go to www.1800PetMeds.com one of the first things you need to do is add your pets' information as well as what vet they see. I was quite surprised that they could find our vet so quickly and I loved that I could add an image to personalize my pets' info.

The info you provide is very helpful for PetMeds® to personalize what kind of marketing material is sent to you. As you can see, I check marked that Shipoopi is overweight and the next day I got an email from PetMeds® with some information on conditions overweight cats can have. Pretty useful!

So after we have our information in, let's see what they have to offer!

They provide items for dogs, cats, and horses. You can shop by medical condition, pet supplies, vitamins, flea and tick, heartworm, and even Pet Education! The Pet Education tab has a list of topics like heartworms, ear infections, toxins, etc with articles and videos to teach you about the topic. I was amazed at how many different types of items they provide, and after going through most of them I noted that they mostly provide medical-related items such as prescription-required, over-the-counter items, and other medications (of course!).

They even have our favorite heartworm and flea preventative, Sentinel! We have been using this beef-flavored tablet for a couple of years now and I have been very pleased with it. I had the honor to meet a representative at BlogPaws this year and told them that I loved how affordable it is!

So after you choose what prescription medications, dog treats, toys, vitamins, etc., you want- you go to the checkout. For prescriptions, they ask if you are going to mail a written prescription from your vet or if you want them to contact the vet themselves. They also ask what pet the prescription is for and their vet.

Now for Shipoopi, I chose some generic Frontline Plus. There were a lot of great options but I decided on the generic because it has the same ingredients and was a lot cheaper.

Shipping was free since I was over $49, and our package came quickly!

Let's look at what we have!

"Lookie mama! I gots a biscuit!"
With our order, we also got a large dog biscuit! It would be nice if it had an ingredient list because of Jada's allergies, but I am not gonna pick nits over something free, haha.

I am not going into details about the treats I bought, but these were great and simple beef liver treats!

The toys were a big hit as well. I love the easy-to-squeak squeakers in the 1-800-PetMeds®  Max toy and Mr. Kitty enjoyed having the 1-800-PetMeds® Molly toy to play around with!

Last but not least, we have the topical flea medicine Flea5x Plus, a 1-800-PetMeds® product. On PetMeds®'s website, I liked all the information they give you comparing the name brand and the generic.

I followed all the instructions and made sure that Shipoopi didn't come in contact with the dogs for a while after applying the medicine (not like she would let them anyways).

It was very easy and we didn't have any issues, plus she is flea free!

In a Nutshell...
  • 1-800-PetMeds® is a company that sells prescription medication for dogs, cats, and horses
  • They also sell over-the-counter medication, vitamins, supplements, and other pet supply items
  • PetMeds® is a licensed pharmacy and Vet-VIPPS accredited

I really like 1-800-PetMeds® and how they make it easier for pet parents to get their pet's prescriptions and other medications. I would recommend this site for someone looking for a one-stop shop for their pet's medical needs!
