Review & Giveaway: Freshening up your Pet-Filled Home with Fresh Wave®

Review & Giveaway: Freshening up your Pet-Filled Home with Fresh Wave®

The Chesnut Mutts were compensated in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are genuinely mine and we would not share a product that we did not fully believe in. Please do not use any image without permission.

Let's face it. When you have pets, your house can get pretty smelly. With 5 dogs, 3 cats, and 2 rats (Tyrone the aquatic snail doesn't smell too much in his aquarium) odors can pile on pretty fast, but the usual cleaning products are filled with chemicals that can irritate our pets' respiratory system and even cause allergic reactions. We have recently found a great brand called Fresh Wave® who's changing the way us pet parents make our home smell a bit better!

Fresh Wave® isn't in the business of air fresheners, they are in the business of natural odor removal. No chemicals, just water, and plant extracts manufactured in Rising Sun, Indiana. They have many different products for any kind of stinky room or item you may have. They gave us their Odor Removing Spray, Gel, and Packs to try out!

Odor Removing Spray

"Mmm..the smell of fresh air!"

So all Fresh Wave products have these basic natural ingredients: water, plant extracts from lime, pine needle, aniseed, clove, and cedarwood. No chemicals, alcohol, or synthetic fragrances! And what's great is that it is completely safe to use with pets or kids and Phthalate free.

For the Odor Removing Spray, you can use this pretty much anywhere you need it. Stinky shoes? Shirt smell funny? If you have pets, you can use it to remove odors in pet beds, quickly clean the air of pet smell, or even freshen up the pet toys.

Jada and Fresh Wave Odor Removing Spray

We have three dog beds in my room that Jada, Bailey, and Shipoopi use frequently. These can get pretty stinky after a while since this is their go-to spot when in my room. After taking a deep sniff of one of the most favorite bed I concluded that there was indeed a strong dog smell, haha. But I took the Fresh Wave Odor Removing Spray and gave the bed a few spritzes. The smell was better instantly! This would be a great option if you suddenly have guests coming over and don't have time to wash all the dog beds.

Odor Removing Gel

The odor removing gel is great for large rooms or a place that will be continuously smelly like a litter box. Unlike other similar products, it is non-toxic! No worries about Fido getting into it.

We decided to put ours in the living room where most of the dogs gather. It isn't a super strong scent (I guess it would depend on the size of the room) but it gives a subtle scent for 30-60 days.It is definitely better than the lingering scent of wet dog and the gel disappears over time!

I think out of all of these products we tested, the Odor Removing Packs are my favorite! Theses are powerful little bags that you put in small areas to remove smells. You can use them in shoes, cars, trash cans, bags, anywhere small and stinky!

My girls travel with me a lot in the car and it can smell just like a dog after a while! I popped one of the packs in a cup holder and the next day I drove around in a car that smells SO much better! I used to use a lot of air fresheners, but they really don't last that long to me, but these will last 30-60 days.

I also put one in my closet which began to smell like rat food since that's where I store it. Now it is so nice to open the door and smell that Fresh Wave scent!

"Can we go on a ride now?"

In a Nutshell...

  • Fresh Wave® products are manufactured in Indiana and remove odors naturally with the power of natural plant oils and water.
  • The have many products to choose from like the spray, gel, and packs
  • Each one has different ways of using it, but they all work really well in removing odors and not just masking them.
  • My favorite feature is that all the products are non-toxic, even to pets!
  • You can find Fresh Wave at your local Target store and online on their website (They ship anywhere in the U.S. and you get free shipping for orders over $60)

I think Fresh Wave is a great product to use if worry about the cleaning products you use around your pets. Harsh chemicals are not good for them and allergies and irritation can arrise from their use, so going for something with minimal ingredients, but still very effective is the way to go!

Something to point out is that I used the spray in my room where my rats' cage is. Rats have very sensitive respiratory systems (so sensitive that an air freshener made them sick when they were young) so I was cautious to not use it too much, but they haven't had any problems with it at all. Definitely a plus in my book!

  1. I have a dog, a bird, and a fish tank full of fish. My dog Jingle probably contributes to the most stinkiness lol! She loves to roll around in grass, and jump on people's beds when she is muddy. We also have recently been fostering puppies and they love to make messes.

  2. I have 1 dog Shunta and 2 cats, Mushu and Sneaky Pie. Cat litter have to keep up with and every once in awhile and accident on the floor. Other than that its mostly hair.

  3. Oy!!! Yes, I have two pups, Lady Girl 8 yrs young and Pookie 8 months old. Pookie is my little stinker. He poops and pees to mark his territory. He is very protective and thinks he owns everything in the house!!! This would be a fantastic addition to my pet arsenal!!

  7. I have one dog. He doesn't shed so not much hair to clean at all. Occassional vomit or messy paws to clean up though.

  8. I have 2 Shichon dog's and their muddy paws are the biggest think in trying to keep my house clean. Seeding grass right now and the rain does not help :/

  9. I have three Treeing Walker Coonhounds and two cats (all rescues, and down from 5 dogs and 3 cats, but lost two seniors and my deaf hound girl who developed an autoimmune disorder). I definitely have a full-time job just trying to keep my house clean. We have areas in our back yard where we just can't keep the grass growing, so the dogs are always tracking dirt/mud into the house, too.

  10. I have one dog and one cat. The cat.. well he doesn't stink, but the dog? OH my gosh! LOL. I keep EVERYTHING covered with things I can pop into the wash. Because of course, she goes onto the furniture when you are not looking, so we just gave in and covered it all now. Wash it often. She also sneaks onto a bed with the kid. *sigh* and that bedroom has carpeting so the carpet stinks where she lays near the kid!

  11. I only have 1 dog now so it's better than when we had 2. My dog does have visitors almost every day so they are in and out of the house too. It's fun but I use a room spray but the Fresh Wave sounds better. Thanks for sharing.

  13. We have 3 cats and 1 dog (a 50 pound Coonhound/Lab mix). With all the rain we've been having the couch officially smells like wet dog no matter how well I think I've dried him off. We've gone through quite a bit of Febreeze but I'd rather try a more natural product - especially one that's formulated with pets in mind. In the cats' litterbox room we use a variety of odor removing gels - but none seem to really last very long. Thanks for posting this! I'm going to try this product.

  22. I have two amazing, loving, and lovable cats-- Sam and Henry. We don't have any problems at all with messes or dirtiness because of them, except for those very rare occasions when one of them will throw up a little. (This is generally a result of eating too quickly.) Their litter box isn't even stinky! (Tip: Sprinkle a single cup -size bag of green tea [leaves] over the scooped-out litter box, and mix it in a bit using the scooper. This will help reduce odors!)
I would love to win these awesome products for my mother, to use in her home. She has a small-ish dog, Sally, who... Well, stinky stinky. Sal was rescued during a puppy mill shutdown, and because her medical and dental needs were neglected while she was there, she's had quite a few problems that can be messy or stinky (e.g., teeth removed --> bad breath). Also, she's not entirely house-trained. :(

  23. We have two Boston Terriers who fart a LOT. They also seem to shed in unison. Yoda also tends to drool on all the surfaces of our home....blech!

I have 2 dogs, 3 cats and 1 foster cat. Yes, needless to say my house can get stinky! This stuff sure would come in handy!

  25. I have a corgi and a cat. They shed so much it's like tumbleweeds across the house. I use a mini vacuum on the furniture and in the car but it's tough to keep up with sometimes. My corgi has a long coat and loves to roll in the mud and swim in the nearby creek so there are definitely unwanted smells around here!

  30. Two dogs- the fur is the hardest to keep up with, but there is definitely a dog smell at times.
