Review & Giveaway: Celebrating with YPCK Pup and Kitty Kakes

With the transformation of pet owners to pet parents, we are always looking for new things to spoil our fur babies with. Birthdays and celebrations are a big deal so it isn’t out of the ordinary nowadays to see someone making a special meal or even hosting a birthday party for their pet. Let me introduce you to YPCK and their Pup and Kitty Kakes!

YPCK Logo

Yuppy Puppy City Kitty (YPCK) has been around since 2014 and was founded by Stella Dowling. Stella wanted to bring her love of pets, people, and parties together as a way for people to become independent financially. YPCK is like many other companies where you can make commissions on sales you make through “Paw-ties”. We met them through BarkWorld last year and really like that they are local to Georgia.

My friend Lauren from YPCK asked me if we would like to review their new microwavable cakes for dogs and cats. Microwavable? Now that is different. We all like convenience, myself included, so of course we had to get our paws on this product! We were given the Birthday Set Pup Kake and the Kitty Kake for our crew.

The Birthday Set Pup Kake comes with cake mix, frosting mix, a microwavable cake pan and a birthday candle. The ingredients are great for a healthy treat!

Mixing YPCK Birthday Set Pup Kake

The instructions are pretty easy. First step is to mix 1/3 cup water, the packet of cake mix, and as an optional treat, add 1 tablespoon of peanut butter, applesauce, or yogurt.

Once it is all mixed up, grab your microwaveable dog bone cake pan and spray with non-stick cooking spray, and pour in the batter. Since I added peanut butter, my batter was a bit sticky so I plopped batter in the pan with a spoon. When using peanut butter, make sure that the type you are using doesn’t contain Xylitol, an artificial sweetener that is deadly to dogs. A great dog-friendly peanut butter is DOGSBUTTER from DOGforDOG.

Pop that cake pan in the microwave for 2 ½ minutes and you can get started on the dried yogurt frosting. Combine 3 tablespoons water, the frosting mix packet, and the optional add-in of honey. I was fresh out of honey and noticed that my frosting was too thick, so I added more water until I got the consistency I wanted. Turn over the cake pan to release the dog bone once it is cool and frost that bad boy. Add the candle for that birthday aesthetic. Good enough to eat ;).

I went ahead and cut up the cake into three pieces for Dottie, Dibble, and Bailey and they absolutely loved it! Dottie made a bit of a mess because cakes get crumbly, but hey, easy cleanup, right? Dibble didn’t have any trouble eating the soft cake (he has very few teeth) and it looked like he really enjoyed it.

We can’t leave the kitties out can we? I find it pretty special that YPCK has a cake especially for cats. Cats need more attention in the pet world! So a yummy cake treat full of catnip and cheese would surely show my appreciation. For this cake, you get a cake pan for three small cakes and a packet of cake mix.

So it is a similar spiel with this cake: mix 1/3 cup water, the packet of cake mix, and as an optional item, you can use a tablespoon of tuna, canned salmon, or anchovy paste. I decided to add a tablespoon of some of the cat’s wet food. Spray the pan well with non-stick cooking spray, pour the batter in the pan, and microwave for 1 ½ minutes.

Ta-da! Cute little fish shaped cakes. Make sure to let it cool before taking them out of the pan and serving. You are also welcome to add frosting of some sort by using anchovy paste, cream cheese, or even pumpkin. I didn’t have any of those available, so I served them plain.

Shipoopi seemed to really enjoy the Kitty Kakes! I had to crumble it up a bit so she could eat it a bit easier, but she was definitely enjoying herself as you can see by the photos.

Of course, I had to let Everett and the new babies (Jasper and Oliver from HealingWhiskers.com) try it. Let’s just say they tried running off with it as soon as they smelled it. Haha.

In a Nutshell…

  • YPCK has been around since 2014 and is a company in which you can make commissions with.
  • The have a new line of products which includes microwavable dog and cat cakes.
  • Both of the cakes are very easy to make and my dogs and cats (and rats) seem to really like them!
  • For dogs, the Birthday Set Pup Kake and the regular Pup Kake set comes in either 3 cheese or carob
  • For cats, the Kitty Kake comes in Nip N Cheese flavor
  • You can find both of these at YPCK's website

Overall I (and my pets) really enjoyed these cakes. They are easy to make, the ingredients are simple and mostly organic, just a great item to treat your pets with! I've done the whole "make your own cake" thing and it took me hours. With how quickly the doggie cake was eaten, I would take a microwaveable cake over oven-baked any day!

  5. I typically just make homemade treats (or sometimes food) and spend more time with the birthday furbaby. For the dogs, they get an extra walk (weather permitting) and/or a trip to PetSmart to pick out a new toy. I'd love to be able to make a dog- and/or cat-friendly cake for them.
