Goodbye, My Baby Boy...

It has been such a hard month for us. Not sure as to why. Call it a part of a great big plan as you will.

Death is not fair. Death is ugly. It makes you cry those ugly tears no matter how strong you are. Unfortunately, it happens very often and is a part of life.

In Memory of Jake The Chesnut Mutt

For those following our social media, you probably already heard that we had to put Jake to sleep last week. After finding out he had cancer and the amputation (more info here) we thought it was all downhill from there.

Jada's Stella & Chewy's 30-Day Challenge Part 1

Jada's Stella & Chewy's 30-Day Challenge

The Chesnut Mutts were given the product in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are genuinely mine and we would not share a product that we did not fully believe in. Please do not use any image without permission.

We talk about raw food a lot here at The Chesnut Mutts, and we have the opportunity this month to try Stella & Chewy's freeze-dried raw patties for a whole month thanks to Chewy.com!

Stella & Chewy's Super Beef Dinner Patties

Jada will be eating Stella & Chewy's for a whole month and we will be reporting back with two more blog posts about any changes I can observe and our overall thoughts.

Stella & Chewy's Super Beef Dinner Patties Ingredients

We have tried Stella & Chewy's many times before, but not for an extended amount of time. Jada has severe food allergies, so this food is just great because it only has one protein source and then organic veggies and fruits with added vitamins and minerals. The ingredients are awesome with 90-95% meat, organs, and ground bone and it is all made in the U.S.A. Yum!

Jada and Stella & Chewy's Super Beef Dinner Patties

These are freeze-dried raw patties which you crumble up and add warm water to rehydrate it. Because of Jada's size, she will be getting 3 1/2 patties every day. I like how easy it is to crumble up and serve which is quicker than preparing traditional raw. Easy peasy!

Hopefully, we will see improvement all around such as better stamina, shinier coat, and healthier teeth and gums. I also want to see if her being on this food for 30 days will improve her allergies. Crossing my fingers we get some good results!

Raw feeding is all the rage and has become one of the best options in nutrition for your pup. But it does get messy and complicated when it comes to preparing it. This is where freeze-dried comes in! This preserves the nutrients and all you have to do is add water. I love these types of raw food as it is so convenient. One of our readers suggested the brand we are reviewing today! Raising Funds for Jake's Leg Amputation Due to Cancer

A few weeks ago Jake started limping with a gash in his wrist. Thinking he just got into something and hurt himself, we put him on antibiotics and waited a week. There was little to no improvement so a vet visit was in order.

Instead of just a gash, it turned out to be a tumor. Jake could have rubbed his leg on something because of the pain. I am actually very thankful he did this, because the vet did not like the look of it. A biopsy was done and he went home in his cone of shame.

The limping became better but our hearts sank as we got the phone call that it was indeed cancer. Level 1 Soft Tissue Sarcoma. This type of cancer usually stays in one location and because it is level one there isn't too many symptoms happening yet. Surgery was scheduled the next day and we hoped for the best.

The next morning Jake was so excited to get in the car for a ride..but wasn't too happy to get in the vet's office. He went "full toddler" as I call it. You know when a little kid will become a ragdoll and fall on the floor? Yup. Imagine a 70 pound dog doing that.

A few hours later we got a call saying that it was worse than expected. This cancer had grown and spread into his flexor tendons and blood vessels. The only options we had were to let it be or to amputate. He is 13 years old, but still very lively, so putting him down was not an option for us. $2,500 to remove a leg and prolong his life or do nothing and see him in pain until he passes. Guess which option we chose?

So Jake's leg is amputated and we will probably be getting him back home tomorrow. I just wanted to update you all on the situation and we do have a GoFundMe account set up if you would like to help us cover the costs for his surgery. Every little bit is appreciated!

Review & Giveaway: What makes Lucy Pet Products™ Cats Incredible™ Cat Litter...well, Incredible!

Review & Giveaway: What makes Lucy Pet Products™ Cats Incredible™ Cat Litter...well, Incredible!

Cat litter is a part of everyday life for a cat parent and it can be a stinky part of having a feline in the house. I have had cats ever since I was little starting with a stray I named Noggin, then Shasha, and now we have Shipoopi, Mr. Kitty, and Smooshie in our household. Dumping a heavy box of dusty litter and then having the ammonia smell waft around even though you just replaced the litter is frustrating and I'm glad Lucy Pet Products™ is doing something about it.
