For this 2nd post, we are going to dive in a bit deeper with the ingredients and also see what Bailey (our picky eater) thinks about the Potato & Duck Dry Dog Food Formula!

Natural Balance Pet Foods® is a wonderful premium pet food company that believes that every pet is unique and deserves quality nutrition. They want the best for your pet, so their products are carefully balanced and never compromised! Plus, they have a Buy with Confidence guarantee to ensure your pet's health and safety.

Natural Balance has many foods to fit your dog or cat's needs such as Wild Pursuit for high protein, and Limited Ingredient Diets for food allergies. Bailey doesn't have any food allergies that we know of (Jada has plenty and hers are so bad that we cannot feed her most limited foods because she is allergic to so many ingredients) but it can be sort of a preventative measure to feed you dog a limited diet so their body doesn't retaliate against certain foods over time.

L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diets are not new to Natural Balance- I actually remember this line when I was looking for an allergy safe food for Jada way back when in 2011 and they were one of the only ones doing this at the time. This line of food comes in dry food, canned food, and even treats for dogs and cats for all life stages and breeds. Most of these are grain-free, except for the lamb and brown rice diets.

Potatoes, duck meal, duck, canola oil, potato protein, potato fiber...

Let's take a gander at the ingredients of the L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diets Potato & Duck Dry Dog Formula, shall we? Off the bat, I see that it is mostly potatoes and duck like the name suggests. It is truly limited with one animal protein and limited carbohydrate sources, plus there are no artificial flavors or bleached ingredients.

Some ingredients to note:

Duck

I love seeing protein that is not common in pet foods because over feeding a protein can cause allergies to arise, so try something different! (Besides duck, Natural Balance also has venison, bison, rabbit, and even Wagyu Beef!)

Potatoes

This is a carbohydrate which is rich in potassium and is a highly digestible energy source

Canola Oil

Contains Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids and is low in saturated fat while being high in monounsaturated fat

Salmon Oil

This is also high in Omega 3 and is a natural source of DHA

So how did Bailey like the food? She LOVED it! I was actually genuinely surprised because she is a very picky eater especially when it comes to dry food, but she was very eager to finish it all and licked the bowl clean. Remember, when you put good quality in, you get good quality out!

  1. Dexter's bestie eats and thrives on this food and it is a very reputable brand we feel good feeding, too!

  2. I agree about changing up protein sources and even carb sources. I feed limited ingredients and a variety. After all, I wouldn't want to eat the same thing every day and it helps prevent deficiencies and sensitivities.

  3. We have tried other Natural Balance product lines and my boys love them! I may grab a back of L.I.D. and rotate that into their feeding schedule.

    1. That diet sounds really good. I understand what you mean, we have 5 dogs over here with picky eaters and some that will eat anything. Lol

  6. Shiner has tried their Wild Pursuit line, but not the LID line yet. I may need to try it out in the near future. I want to continue giving her some dry food and I am really liking duck as a protein as well.

    1. I still want to try the girls on what you are feeding, and I'm in the same boat with feeding kibble with other foods. Duck is a great protein source :)
