How do you pick a toy for your dog? Size? Shape? Durability? Material? Color? Tuggable? Squeaky? After a couple of years with your dog hopefully you will figure out what kind of toy is suitable for your dog. For example, Jada has to have very durable squeaky toys while Bailey is pretty much fine with anything, but something on the more durable side is better. Also, for Jada I try to stay away from plastic because it could cause an allergic flare-up (according to her ImmuneIQ report).
Some people are trying to go the more natural route with toys- using upcycled, wool, or hemp materials free of dyes and plastics. I am totally behind this, especially how often these toys are inside our pup's mouths and sometimes, but hopingly not, ingested.

Ollie's Orca - Small
- Features hemp canvas on the top and thick fleece on the bottom
- The organic cotton stuffing and squeaker are inside another layer of hemp canvas
- All seams are double sewn and it is all machine washable
- Comes in small and medium
- Small version is $12.95
This toy was specially designed for a pup named Ollie who needed some encouragement to play so they made something that he could flip around in the air easily. The head is weighted so it flops around like a fish when thrown in the air. My girls don't really play like that- they usually just chew on toys and catch them when I throw them, lol. Even though, this toy is tough and stood up to Jada's chew test! The small is perfect for dogs Bailey's size (10 lbs) as well.
I also love that it is double layered and super tough, yet really cute! Honestly, a lot of other durable toys are not very visually appealing, but this orca is super adorable and I love the natural look! The only thing I could find that could be a negative is that the white fleece easily gets dirty, but it is machine washable, so there ya go :).

Squeaky Hemp Carrot - Small
- Made with hemp canvas with hemp braids "leaves"
- Has an inner layer of hemp canvas that contains the organic cotton and squeaker
- Double sewn seams and machine washable

Jada loves this squeaky carrot! It fits perfectly in her mouth and she loves to catch it in the air and then chew on it. This toy also stood up to Jada's chew test with its durable double layered hemp canvas design. Gotta love cute toys that are super durable! (and they also have a similar product for cats filled with catnip!)
Small Pet Blanket - Soft Pastels
- Measures 22 x 30 inches
- Each one is unique and made from up-cycled wool and felt sweaters from thrift shops that are washed in hot soapy water then double rinsed
- Machine washable
- Comes in small, medium, and large
- Price for the small blanket is $30
Smooshie, our elderly cat, loves to lay down in the same spot for most of the day, so why not make it more comfortable? I love that this is up-cycled from discarded wool and felt sweaters. I get fleece from local gift shops and use it in our rat cage for bedding and hammocks. Taking something that wasn't wanted and making it into something new and beautiful again is really a wonderful idea.
Anyways, Smooshie really loves her blanket and I can see how this would be very helpful in the winter when her usual bench might be a bit cold to the touch. The only negative I can think of is that cat hair likes to get embedded in it, but you can always wash it and plus it is a pet blanket, so hair is expected!
